Star Fruit for Cough and Sore Throat
Star fruit is a different kind of fruit. It has a shape like a star. You can see it clearly when slicing it. It originally came from Srilanka and the Mallacan islands. But then it spread throughout the Indian continent and South East Asia. It hit Britain market in the late 1970s and was introduced in US around 150 years ago. And now, the star fruit is produced commercially in Hawaii. The color can be waxy green or yellow-orange. To eat it, you can take it directly from the tree or process it more by putting it into the fruit salads, jams and even dishes.
There are many benefits offered by the star fruit or Averrhoa Carambola. It is rich in vitamin A and C which are good for eyesight. Other contained nutrients include vitamin B complex, amino acids, carbohydrate, protein, tryptophan, dietary fiber and lysine. With the rich content of nutrients, star fruit offers effective herbal medication to heal coughs, fever, diabetes, sore throat, mouth sores and cholesterol. You are not only able to take the advantages of the fruit but also the flowers, leaves and even the roots. To treat an acute sore throat, you need to crush 80-100g of fresh star fruit leaves with some salt. Squeeze them to get the juice. Divide it into two or three parts to hold in the mouth and swallow it slowly. For dry coughs and loose coughs with mucus treatment, you can dry 8-12g of tar fruit flowers with ginger juice, 12g of liquorices, and 8-10g of marjoram. Boil them into 750ml of water till there is only 300ml left. Drink it twice before the meals.
Cough and sore throat can be bothering. It is painful when you try to swallow your meals. However, it does not always require medications to treat it because there is a star fruit to use as the natural alternative. Though it has many benefits to offer, star fruit is not recommended to people with kidney disease due to its high content of oxalic acid.
